Woot! Good news.
January 23, 2017 at 10:42 am #1137NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantI think safe zones ought to be just that.. “safe”. But too many times I see players creeping up on my vehicle as I attempt to sell it or sell cargo from it. Normally, players who do that attempt to take the vehicle before I can complete the sale at the scrap dealer or take cargo. Couple of nights ago we had a player simply hop in our strider and sit there until we drove out of the trader and shot him thru the window.
I keep an eye out for players who hide behind the sand bag barriers waiting for an opportunity to steal your vehicle a the trader. Sure you can lock player owned vehicles, but when you are trying to sell a captured AI vehicle, it leaves you open to getting ripped off as you make the sale.
So, my “trader etiquette” is simple. Stay away from other player’s vehicles and do not “creep up” or “appear to be waiting” for other players to leave their vehicles. If I experience this kind of behavior, it results in me simply running over the player. I could drive to another trader or come back another time, but I usually just run them over.
Other than that, I usually have no issues at the trader. Sure, from time to time, there is someone playing bandit just outside the trader, but they are usually easily killed and looted. Best practice at the trader is to not use the normal entrance and exits. Just blaze your own path in and out of the trader – this usually prevents anyone from ambushing you as you leave. I try to come and go by driving in across the landing strip. Not to many places for anyone to hide in that flat area. Even if you do get killed, a quick respawn makes it easy to get your stuff back

January 14, 2017 at 9:51 am #1110NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantI too have experienced this a little bit. However, it only happens to me when:
1. I am towing the vehicle. For example I will be towing a black box truck with a stryder. Suddenly I hear the sound of a vehicle engine starting and then the lights of the vehicle I am towing flash on and off, similar to the way the lights flash when you lock & unlock a vehicle.
2. SOMETIMES when I am the driver of the vehicle and I scroll wheel to the “get out” option. The vehicle engine will stop and then immediately start up again. I have also tried the scroll wheel option “engine off” followed by “get out” and sometimes the engine starts again immediately after.
When the vehicle engine is running, it attracts zombies. The zombies will hit the vehicle repeatedly until it is heavily damaged.
The only work around I have found that works is to:
Scroll wheel to “engine off”.
Scroll wheel to “passenger seat”.
Scroll wheel to “get out”.
Scroll wheel to “lock”January 13, 2017 at 1:48 pm #1107NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantThanks for taking care of it!
January 12, 2017 at 1:53 pm #1102NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantIts the vehicle ai. They have immunity to being run over and killed (they can only be knocked down). Something in the code is allowing them to remain immune to damage when being shot.
January 11, 2017 at 10:37 am #1098NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantI can confirm that the vehicle protection system no longer works. Player owned locked vehicles can be destroyed, regardless if they are locked or not.
January 9, 2017 at 3:53 pm #1092NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantI think players use this to farm vehicles from the AI patrols that pass there frequently. Sometimes players shoot at other players, either on purpose or because they are mistaken for AI.
My major gripe about that base is that it is so close to the airfield and you end up driving past it all the time. Some player placed a mounted MG up there once and made quick work of players and AI as they approached.
I’ve learned to honk my horn as I go by to prevent shots. If someone shoots at me from that base I am going to fight back. I took the flag once, after having a little PVP battle there. At one point I was able to enter the base and hold it a while. Super fun.
Whoever was defending that base used its close location to the airfield to be able to re spawn and parachute back into it over and over again (to get their gear and keep fighting). People attacking it did the same thing. It kept the PVP action going and going.
I think it would be better balanced to have the base further from the airfield, but that just my opinion.

January 9, 2017 at 3:46 pm #1091NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantI like the AI too, but there are WAY too many of them. Most of the time I can scarcely finish killing the AI and towing the vehicle before another crew of vehicle AI drive up and start shooting. Lots of AI farming going on due to the outrageous number of them on the road.
I sent a PM to Terd about this issue, but I’ll make my case here as well.
I think we could reduce the number of vehicle AI to be more “realistic” to the number we would see if we were on abandoned on a penal colony. The reduction could only help to improve FPS.
So, lets keep them, but lets reduce their frequency or overall number.
Would not hurt to dial back the zombies as well. Their are so many that it interferes with base building, base raiding, killing AI, and PVP too.
January 6, 2017 at 1:13 pm #1072NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantOur team realized that you can not kill the roving vehicle AI (not mission AI) by running them over. These are the AI that ride in a vehicle. The vehicle will stop and deploy AI if they see you.
There must be something written into the script that makes them invulnerable to death by being run over. The again, we were not moving very fast when we ran them over. My friend says he has been able to run them over and kill them..
The times that we found them to be super human (alive and able to shoot back after we dump entire magazines into their bodies) were the times RIGHT AFTER we had run them over.
The mission AI still blow up when you run them over.. ouch.
Perhaps some lingering effect of invulnerability to being run over exists after they recover from being run over?

December 19, 2016 at 2:19 pm #1057NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantSo, maybe we all turn Arma 3 auto updating “off” and just play the latest Exile version forever?
December 19, 2016 at 2:08 pm #1056NickS (AKA Texas)ParticipantRocks still stop AI bullets… So build your base near a big rock! ROFL
